What are Light Truck tires?

When you think of Light Truck tires you may be envisioning a truck that is on the smaller side. However, Light Truck/LT tires are simply tires that are designed for heavier and more powerful vehicles than standard passenger cars which includes everything from every day SUVs/CUVs and vans to pick-up trucks, and other light-duty trucks. LT tires are engineered to handle the increased load, towing capacity, and off-road conditions that these vehicles often encounter.

Features of LT tires

Durability: Light Tuck tires are made with stronger materials and more rugged construction, making them more resistant to damage from rough terrain, heavy loads, and other challenging conditions.

Tread Design: The tread patterns on LT tires offer better traction in off-road situations or adverse weather conditions like snow and mud.

Sidewall Strength: LT tires typically have stronger sidewalls, which are designed to withstand the added stress from heavy loads and rough terrain. This also helps reduce the risk of punctures.

Towing and Hauling: LT tires are better suited for towing trailers or hauling heavy loads, making them a common choice for work trucks and vehicles used in construction or agricultural settings.

Load Capacity: LT tires have a higher load-carrying capacity compared to passenger car tires. They're reinforced to handle the extra weight and pressure associated with larger vehicles and cargo.

Landsail's line of LTs

Landsail Tires offers a wide selection of Light Truck Tires as part of Sentury’s family of brands' collection. These include: The Mud-Terrain (M/T), All-Terrain (A/T), Rough-Terrain (R/T), Highway-Terrain (H/T), and the Extreme-Terrain (X/T) which are each designed for a range of different driving purposes and road conditions. You may have noticed that each tire has the term "terrain" in the name. So let's break down what this specifically refers to.

Different types of terrain explained

The Mud-Terrain (M/T)
Featuring extreme tread blocks and rugged construction, Landsail's Mudblazer is a Mud-Terrain tire that is designed to get your truck, SUV or 4x4 off-road vehicle through dirt, mud, sand, and snow, and comes with an M+S snow rating. The M+S rating on the tire sidewall indicates it was engineered for better traction in the mud and snow. So while the name suggests Mud Terrain tires are ideal for off-road use in muddy, rocky and other extreme conditions, they are also effective in snow. MTs are a great choice if you frequently take your vehicle on road-tripping adventures in different seasons.

All-Terrain (A/T)
The Rangeblazer is an ideal All-Terrain tire for truck and SUV drivers. With an aggressive design, the A/T tire is reliable in rain, snow or dirt, and on a variety of roads and terrains. And it has a 3PMSF symbol, which means it’s built to the highest standards for snowy conditions. All-Terrain tires are a great option if you use your vehicle for everyday driving, but also enjoy off-roading.

Rough-Terrain (R/T)
The Rogueblazer is a hybrid Rough-Terrain tire designed for adventure and comfort. With the precise engineering of a mud tire and an All-Terrain tire, the Rogueblazer is more aggressive than a typical A/T and more refined than a typical M/T. Featuring dual sidewall designs, choose between the “R” or the “T” sidewall; both aggressive options prevent damage and enhance grip when driving in mud or rocky conditions. Rough-Terrain tires serve a similar purpose to Mud-Terrain tires, but won’t slow you down on the highway if you need that versatility.

Highway-Terrain (HT)
The Roadblazer is a premium Highway-Terrain tire designed for high traction and quiet comfort. It is also M+S rated, so also engineered for better traction in the mud and snow. Highway-Terrain tires are the best choice if you plan to stick to paved roads, as they will give you the longest tread life.

Extreme-Terrain X/T
The Stormblazer Crossover CLX20 is a hybrid tire created for popular overlanding CUV/SUV and light-truck vehicles in 79 sizes. It features a strong tread pattern and the option to choose the look you want with a dual sidewall design. This Crossover-Terrain CUV/SUV/LT tire offers more aggressive features with the reliability and durability you need for OHV or overlanding. Extreme-Terrain tires offer optimal performance in a range of extreme weather and road conditions.

Landsail’s Light Truck selection gives you a range of options for the type of vehicle you drive, the type of driving you do the most and type of look you’re after. View the full list of features here.
